Tickets

Admission to the museum is free and you don't need to book. For some exhibitions you will need to buy a ticket. You can buy tickets on our website, over the phone or from the Welcome Desk in the museum.

Disabled visitors get discounted exhibition tickets. You can add a free companion or carer ticket to every Disabled ticket.

Getting to V&A Dundee

Our address is V&A Dundee, 1 Riverside Esplanade, Dundee, DD1 4EZ.

There are multiple bus routes that stop nearby including the Ember routes from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and Dundee train station is 5 minutes walk from the museum.

There are disabled parking bays outside the museum on South Crichton Street where Blue Badge holders can park free of charge and without time limit. There are also car parks at Discovery Point and Greenmarket.

Entrance

Our main entrance is on Riverside Esplanade and is step-free and hands-free.

Welcome Desk

The Welcome Desk is on Level 0, to the left side as you enter through the main entrance. This is where you can purchase tickets for paid exhibitions and events, collect a printed map of the museum or ask a member of staff questions about your visit.

Our Visitor Experience staff members wear a black t-shirt with tartan V&A logo and 'Happy to help!' on the back. They may also wear a pink "Staff" or "Manager" badge.

Wheelchair and physical access

Using a wheelchair

There is step-free access throughout our building.

You can borrow a wheelchair from us for the duration of your visit. These are available from our Welcome Desk on Level 0. You can also reserve a wheelchair in advance by completing a short form.

When booking your wheelchair in advance, you can also arrange alternative entry to the museum through the staff entrance. This may be helpful if you are parking on South Crichton Street. On arrival, a member of staff will meet you with your wheelchair and will escort you into the museum.

Seating

There is seating throughout the museum, including in our gallery spaces. There is a range of different seating on all floors including low hard bench seating and comfy chairs with arms.

If you need a space to eat food you have brought with you, there are tables and chairs on Level 0 next to the shop.

There are also portable stools available in the galleries if you need to rest.

Assistance animals

We welcome suitably trained assistance dogs which must remain on a lead, wearing a relevant tabard or harness. Drinking bowls are available from the Welcome Desk on Level 0.

If you plan to visit with an assistance animal other than an assistance dog, please get in touch with us at access@vandadundee.org.

Accessible bathrooms are available on all levels, and there is a Changing Places Toilet available on Level 1, accessible by lift from the main entrance or from Tatha Bar & Kitchen.

Access resources

Large print guides

We create large print guides for our exhibitions, and you can find specific accessibility information on individual exhibition webpages.

Hearing Loops

The museum is equipped with multiple hearing loop systems designed to support visitors with hearing impairments who rely on enabled hearing aids. These systems are installed throughout the building, including the welcome desk, till points in Tatha Bar & Kitchen and auditorium.

Quiet times and sensory access tools

Some areas can be busy and loud, especially by the Welcome Desk and Tatha Bar & Kitchen.

We have a Quiet Room on Level 1, accessible by stairs or by lift from the main entrance or from Tatha Bar & Kitchen. The Quiet Room has sensory tools and also has prayer mats, a small bookshelf, and some seating. Our staff can provide directions to the Quiet Room if needed, just ask a staff member.

Weekday mornings are usually the quietest times to visit.

We have sensory access tools available, which include colour overlays, communication cards, ear defenders (adult & child sizes), tactile toys and LCD writing tables. These are kept at the Welcome Desk on Level 0 and by the entrance to Gallery 1 on Level 2.
